FAQs/POLICIES
Important FAQs about Park Your Headache (hereinafter referred to as the "Practice")
What is a Direct Pay Model? Why do you charge fees as a Direct Pay Model and are you “out of network” for your services?
Park Your Headache is a Direct Pay Model, where the Patient pays the Practice directly for services rendered by the Practice, bypassing insurance and the need for costs of premiums, copays, deductibles. Park Your Headache does not accept Medicare or Medicaid, and is “out of network” for all insurances.
This way, the Practice can effectively deliver personalized and transparent care centered on each Patient. Dr. Park can focus on providing comprehensive and evidence-based headache care tailored to the unique needs of her patients, without insurance limitations and prolonged delays. She can spend more substantial time with her patients. She can provide prompt services such as acutely relieving injections without being contingent on the insurance timeline, but rather, each Patient’s needs and Dr. Park’s flexible schedule availability. Patients do not need to wait long and suffer in pain to receive expert headache care. This gives Patient efficient access to effective relief, ability to nip migraine in the bud, and to help prevent delays and worsening.

This Practice treats primary headache disorders and does not accept patients who are actively taking controlled substances of any kind for any reason, including products containing barbiturates (i.e. Butalbital), opioids, and other controlled substances including ketamine. In order to effectively make a primary headache diagnosis, patients need be first safely weaned off of these substances by their current prescriber in order to eliminate the overarching “medication overuse headache”, which may be caused by taking these substances. This is outside of the scope of clinical expertise of the Practice.
All patients need to first complete a new patient evaluation with this Practice in order to receive any injections. Upon completion of new patient evaluation, the Practice will determine if a primary headache disorder(s) exists to be treated, and if the patient is indeed clinically appropriate for the Practice. If at any point the Practice determines the Patient is not clinically appropriate, recommendations will be given for other providers to consult with indicated for the Patient’s medical condition(s).

How can I best communicate with the Practice?
For informational inquiries i.e. regarding Practice policies, Fees, Scheduling, Appointment cancellations that do NOT contain any HIPAA Protected Health Information, clinical, medical, and patient related information, you can email:
info@parkyourheadachenj.com
Upon scheduling an appointment, Patient will be sent an invite and should sign up for the patient messaging system through the Electronic Medical Record. This is the way the Practice can initiate communication with you if needed. This the primary modality of communication recommended between the Patient and the Practice for any non-urgent clinical and/or non-clinical messages regarding questions, issues, medication refills, etc.
If you do need to call the office number and reach voicemail, please do not leave any HIPAA Protected Health Information or any medical information on the Practice voice mail system. Only leave your name, telephone number and a brief non-clinical message (i.e. to schedule an appointment). The Practice will respond to appropriate and non-clinical voice mail messages reasonably as is pertinent to the nature of the message.
The Practice always does its best to reasonably accommodate. However, dedicated established patient visit (follow up) will be required to deliver thorough in-person management of complex questions, and/or symptoms, and/or medication changes, and/or new concerns etc. This is best to ensure the safest and most optimized care for you.
What if I have a medical emergency, experience sudden and severe onset headache? What is I experience severe known and/or new clinical symptoms and/or and need urgent assistance?
Call 911 and/or go to your nearest emergency room or urgent care, immediately
The Practice does not have an on-call physician available at any time to answer calls. The Practice will do its best to reasonably respond to non-urgent pertinent and appropriate communications in a timely manner, but the Practice is a strictly non-urgent outpatient office setting that is not equipped nor appropriate to address any clinical matters of this nature.
For example, severe headache and/or new acute onset focal neurological symptoms (i.e. difficulty speaking, loss of vision, weakness, tingling, paralysis, confusion, dizziness/severe imbalance, altered mental status, numbness, etc), can be caused by life-threatening conditions with a narrow window of time for emergent examination, evaluation, and critical intervention.
Do you accept Commercial Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid to pay for the services of the Practice?
No. The Practice is an “out-of-network” medical practice, which means that it does not accept insurance for our services of any type, whether commercial insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. The Practice posts the fees it charges for services here on the website. Please see below regarding “Super bill”.
What about medications and diagnostic studies including labs/imaging? Do these go through insurance?
Yes. Your prescription medications and diagnostic studies such as labs/imaging can be processed through your insurance and pharmacy benefits. The Practice will do its best and provide you with necessary information and documentation supporting our clinical recommendation of these. In order for the Practice to best assist you with the aforementioned, you will need to enter your insurance card information, including prescription benefits and specialty pharmacy, upon patient intake. The overall outcome in the approvals/denials of these medications and diagnostics studies, along with any associated out-of-pocket costs, are ultimately determined between you and your insurance.
Do you treat any headache symptoms that are less than a duration of 3 months?
The Practice generally treats patients whose presenting headache symptom is at least 3 months in duration, to achieve the most accurate primary headache disorder diagnosis and for a visit that is most worthwhile for you.
Acute headaches may be caused by serious secondary conditions that are not due to a primary headache disorder and require time-sensitive treatment- the Practice encourages a Patient with headaches of short-term onset to first complete a full medical evaluation by the primary care physician to rule these out and to access most timely medical management.
Will the Practice provide a receipt of the services? What is a “Super bill”?
Yes, this out-of-network Practice can provide a “Super bill”, which is an itemized receipt detailing the services rendered so that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement, if it is not Medicare or Medicaid. You should call your insurance company to find out about your out-of-network benefits. Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements cannot be submitted by Patient nor the Practice, as it is against rules.
How can I prepare for the first visit?
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visit. Please bring your driver’s license, insurance cards including prescription benefits and specialty pharmacy information, payment, relevant outside medical records including recent visit notes with neurology, primary care, head imaging reports/diagnostics, etc.
The Practice is a fragrance and scent free zone for headache patients. Please do not wear any scented products.
Cancellation/late/no show policy and fees are posted in the “Services and Fees” section of this website.
What if I need additional schedule availability?
If you reach out to info@parkyourheadachenj.com with some requested dates/times possible for you (ensuring that message does not contain protected health information), the Practice will do its best to reasonably accommodate.
