What is a Direct Pay practice, and why don’t you take insurance?

At Park Your Headache, you pay us directly for your care - no insurance middleman. Skipping insurance means Dr. Park can spend real time with you, treat you the way you actually need to be treated, and get you relief faster - without jumping through hoops, i.e. prior authorizations, denials, appeals, and unnecessary months of delays in back and forth with the insurers.

That means no copays, no deductibles, and no waiting on insurance approvals before you get treatment.

We don’t accept insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you can likely use those funds here. Some commercial insurance plans may also reimburse you if we provide a “Super bill” (more on that below). Check with your plan to find out.

How do I become a patient?

Start by reading through this page and the Services page. Once you’re familiar with everything, head to our Scheduling page to book your first appointment. No waiting on the phone to make an appointment. See your doctor in days, not months.

After booking, you’ll be asked to fill out patient forms and put a credit card on file to hold your spot. Please complete all of this - if it’s not done, your appointment may be cancelled.

A few things to know before scheduling:

  • We treat primary headache disorders, like migraine, chronic headache, face, jaw, and neck pain.

  • We cannot accept patients who are currently taking controlled substances — including opioids, barbiturates (like Butalbital), or ketamine. These medications themselves can actually cause or worsen migraines, headaches, and chronic pain (“medication overuse headache”), and it’s important to safely stop them first with your current doctor before we can make an accurate diagnosis.

  • Everyone starts with a new patient evaluation, even if you’ve seen Dr. Park before elsewhere. This visit helps us make sure our practice is the right fit for your care.

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is a 90-minute, one-on-one consultation with Dr. Park. This is dedicated time just for you — no rushing. Dr. Park will perform a comprehensive and detailed evaluation of your history to understand what’s been going on and diagnose your condition.

Her approach is sophisticated, precise, and deeply personal — she takes the time to truly listen, collaborate with you, and build a customized treatment plan around your specific needs. Patients describe her as someone they trust implicitly, who brings both exceptional skill and genuine compassion to every appointment.

Your visit includes:

  • A full review of your headache, pain, and medical history

  • A thorough evaluation of your symptoms

  • Neurological examination, diagnoses, and assessment

  • A personalized treatment plan focused on immediate relief and long-term results

  • Plenty of time to ask questions and talk through your concerns

And here's what makes us different:

With traditional insurance-covered care, getting injection treatments can mean waiting months for approval — only to be denied, delayed, or told to visit an ER that can't even provide this type of care. Meanwhile, you're suffering and the cycle continues.

At Park Your Headache, if Dr. Park determines that injection treatment is right for you, she can deliver it the very same day — with precision and care — so you can start feeling better before you even leave the office.

How do I prepare for my first visit?

  • Complete the required patient registration forms before visit

  • Bring your form of payment and local pharmacy information

  • Bring any relevant medical records — recent notes from a neurologist or your primary care doctor, imaging reports, etc.

  • Please do not wear any scented products. We are a fragrance-free office out of respect for our migraine and headache patients.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early

Cancellation, late, and no-show fees are listed on our Services page.

Can I really receive injections at my first visit?

Yes. During your first visit, Dr. Park will complete your full evaluation, make her diagnosis, and build a treatment plan designed specifically for you - all in one appointment. And if injection treatment is right for you, she can deliver it right then and there, the same day, so you can start feeling better before you even leave the office.

Here, there's no waiting. No runaround. No unnecessary ER visits. Just real, targeted relief provided by the expert physician - diagnosed, planned, and delivered all in a single trip. One visit. One plan. Real relief.

How often will I need to come in for injection treatments?

It depends on you. It can be a la carte or with regular frequency. The number and frequency vary from patient to patient. Time will likely tell.

After your first visit, Dr. Park will give you her expert recommendations based on your specific clinical situation. There’s no one-size-fits-all schedule here. Every patient’s migraine, headache, and chronic pain history is different, and your care plan will reflect that.

Migraines, headaches, and chronic pain are not simple. Over time, they tend to develop into deeply rooted pain circuits across complex nerve networks, that do not resolve on their own.

Dr. Park goes in with her injection treatments to manually break the cycle and interrupt the pain signals your nervous system has been stuck in - sometimes for years.

What can I generally expect as options for frequency?

A la carte: It may be possible for a single treatment to give you substantial relief and effectively lift you out of a cycle, especially if due to an acute episode or migraine flare. This may depend on your specific type of pain or how long symptoms have existed.

Repeat frequency: for more chronic symptoms and complex histories

  • In the beginning, it may take a few visits spaced closer together to crack into those chronic pain cycles. Think of it as resetting a system that’s been running haywire for a long time.

  • As your body responds, your nervous system starts to respond to relief. Visits may become less frequent, spread further apart.

  • Over time, some patients need only periodic maintenance to keep things in check — but how often depends entirely on how chronic and complex your history is. You will become attuned to your symptoms and better able to recognize when treatment is needed. The frequency of your treatment depends on your history, your response, and how you decide to proceed. Dr. Park will partner with you throughout the way. Pain symptoms and management are not identical across patients.

Throughout all of it, Dr. Park goes above and beyond every single visit — putting out as much of the fire as possible directly at the source, major pain hotspots, to the best of her expertise. The investment you make early on pays dividends: fewer visits down the road, more relief, and getting your quality of life back.

You start visit by visit. You can stop anytime. Unlike some medications, you won’t become dependent on these treatments or build up a tolerance. These injections simply help interrupt your pain signals. Stopping whenever you want is safe and always your choice. Dr. Park’s goal is always the same — the safest and most comprehensive care as possible, with the least number of treatments for relief, as cost-effectively for you.

Do I have to commit to a certain number of visits?

No. You pay per visit, as listed on our Services page. There’s no minimum commitment, no membership required. You’re always free to decide what works best for you.

So I’m paying out of pocket — like a contractor or a vet?

Exactly. Payment is due at the time of your visit, just like other services you pay for directly.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes. Direct pay visits are typically eligible. We recommend calling your HSA/FSA administrator first to confirm your coverage details.

What’s a Super bill?

A Super bill is a detailed receipt of the services you received. You can submit it to your commercial insurance plan and they may reimburse you for some of the cost.

Note: Medicare and Medicaid do not allow this. It’s against their rules for both patients and the practice.

What about my prescriptions and lab work or imaging? Does insurance cover those?

Yes. Your medications, lab work, and imaging can still go through your insurance and pharmacy benefits as usual. We’ll provide whatever documentation we can to support those requests. The final approval or denial is between you and your insurance company.

Do you treat new migraines or headaches (less than 3 months)?

Generally, no. We typically see patients whose migraines, headaches, or chronic pain have been going on for at least 3 months. This helps us make the most accurate diagnosis and give you the most worthwhile visit possible.

If your symptoms are newer, we recommend starting with your primary care doctor first to rule out any other medical causes that need prompt attention.

Do you prescribe opioids, ketamine, Butalbital, or cannabis?

No. We don’t prescribe any controlled substances - ever. Our focus is on safe, evidence-based treatments for migraines, headaches, and chronic pain.

How do I get in touch?

For general questions (scheduling, fees, policies, cancellations - nothing personal or medical):

Email: info@parkyourheadachenj.com

For clinical questions after you’re a patient: You’ll get access to our secure patient messaging system through our Electronic Medical Record. This is the best way to reach us for questions, medication refills, or non-urgent concerns.

If you call and get voicemail: Please leave only your name, phone number, and a brief non-medical message (like “I’d like to schedule an appointment”). Do not leave any personal health information on voicemail.

Complex questions about your symptoms or medications are best handled in person at a follow-up visit — that’s the safest way for us to help you.

What if it’s an emergency?

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

We are a non-urgent, outpatient, by appointment only office and do not have an on-call physician. We are not equipped to handle emergencies or urgent issues.

If you have a sudden, severe headache or new symptoms like trouble speaking, vision loss, weakness, numbness, confusion, or dizziness — please seek emergency care right away. These can be signs of something serious that needs immediate attention.

What are your office hours?

We are open by appointment only. The office is only open to scheduled patients and one accompanying guest during their appointment time.

Need a time that isn’t showing online?

Email us at info@parkyourheadachenj.com with some dates and times that work for you (no personal health info in the email, please) and we’ll do our best to find something that works. Next day and weekend scheduling may be available upon request.
